Sorry this is long
Today is the day we celebrate the birth of our son. I have since started a new blog since his birth so I want to share the story of his birth. I could link to it but I want to write it as I remember that night so vividly like it was yesterday. It started out as a day I had been waiting for 2 of my girlfriends and I were going to go to a nice wedding at a nice resort for another of our really good girlfriends son and beautiful daughter in law. I got a dress that would fit since I was going to be 34 weeks pg I knew I needed one and it was so pretty so I spent the day pampering myself took a long shower painted my nails worked hard on my make up and hair. Kathy and Sandra picked me up and off we went it was a sunset wedding in a garden so pretty the weather was so nice and it even sprinkled but that didn't damper the mood. I was mad at myself because I wore my favorite heels since I don't wear them that often but wished I hadn't as my feet were killing me.
On into the resort for Cocktail hour, yep not so fun when you can't have one so I drank some diet coke and ate some of the yummy spread. Before this we spent time taking pictures and me my shoes were off and I didn't care they were staying off. On to the reception where the real fun is about to begin.
We found our spot right next to the door and made friends with a nice couple at our table who happened to be a nurse. Time for the wedding march I turn to face the door so I am not in any ones way and I felt a little wetness, now that I am 34 weeks pg I have heard you can pee yourself pretty easily so I thought that was what happened and I was a little worried after the party came in I faced the table and even more wetness which now I knew wasn't right. I stood up and looked at the chair and there was blood, I told Kathy we have to go she asked what didn't hear me I said we have to go I am bleeding now Kathy asked the nice man at our table Mike the retired nurse to help us and he did, the moment we got out of the reception hall I started to bleed a lot gushing at times, he called for towels and they laid me down right there and called 911 while Kathy was getting ahold of Bill who was at home with Abigail. Everything didn't seem real. I knew that I had placenta previa but it had gotten better, we were going to have another ultra sound in 2 weeks to see if I would have to have a c-section, but I also knew if I started to bleed to get to hospital. I got sick as well and Mike was so great taking care of me. I was worried I didn't want anything to happen to my baby boy or did I want the wedding to be ruined. At one time the mother and father of the groom came out in disbelief of what was happening, and they have a friend who was a labor and delivery nurse and they went got her and she came out and took over everything even when the emts got there she was telling them what to due. Since there was so much blood they loaded me up and took off to TMC (which wasn't my hospital) On our way there they were putting in an iv, interesting in a moving vehicle. They were also talking to the hospital letting them know what was going on.
When we got to the hospital they took us to the wrong entrance so here we were wheeling all the way to labor and delivery from the regular emergency entrance. Sandra rode in the ambulance and Kathy followed. They were working so fast getting me in a gown and hooking me up to all the monitors. Bill arrived with Abi and the girls took care of Abi we then found out I was in labor (remember me saying I got sick, it then occurred that yes I was happened when I was in labor with Abi) and baby was doing good no distress for him now we needed to make the big decision to deliver tonight or be monitored and in the hospital until I would deliver. They really said we should have the c-section tonight as the baby wasn't in distress and it would be better vs waiting cuz next time it might not be so good. I was worried we still had 3 weeks until he was considered full term so we talked to a NICU doctor and she told us it would be fine. So here we go let the girls know what was going on and off they went with my daughter for the night and we got ready at 10:49 Gustaf was born. The next few hours were not clear as the spinal tap I was given for the big cut knocked me out. I was in recovery until 3:30am oh and the iv they gave me in the ambulance wasn't even in a vein so they had to redo it. Off to our room where they did take me into nicu to see my boy cuz they took him there right away with Bill following. I do remember he peed all over the nurse right after he was born after that things got fuzzy.
Once in the room we tried to sleep but the cuffs on my legs didn't help and they had to check my vitals ever 30 mins. At 7 we gave up and started to make calls to the family to let them know what was going on. My family had been at a wedding reception for my cousin the same night and had no clue what was going on and were shocked the next day. Sent Bill to check on our baby and I was not allowed out of bed for a few hours yet. My friends came with Goodies and that night before Bill took Abi home with him I did go and see Gus and get to hold him which helped Bill out a lot as I was not to happy with everything going on.
He spent 2 weeks in NICU and the day he came home was so wonderful, the hospital that I delivered at was a 45 min drive from our house
